Chromosome 3

About Chromosome 3

- one of the largest human chromosomes, makes up 6.5% of the DNA in the human genome

- Chromosome 3 has 1,000-1,500 genes out of the 10,000-25,000 genes in the human genome

- contains 4 overlapping DNA sequences, one of which shows the longest stretch of finished DNA sequence currently known

- has the lowest rate of duplication (risk for trisomy) in the entire human genome

*A detailed picture of Chromosome 3*
- has two parts: p and q
- colored bands show different regions of the gene
